This book here has really revolutionized the way drumming is learned. The content is insightful, clear, and concise. It was written so that anybody of any skill level could easily understand. The techniques shown are the proper way, consistent with traditional drumming. It’s all up to you to form bad habits. Angel Bartolotta is an absolutely inspiring individual as he tells his tale without the ego that comes from the usual suspect(s) of a “successful musician”. As someone who has studied under his tutelage I can tell you first hand that this book does not deviate from his methods, even in person. This book is the genuine article, and a must have for any student looking to start or even a seasoned musician looking to improve their skills.

Love the book Angel, I am working the triplet section, and loving it. Using it to improve my double bass technique. I find that I can spend hours on one page, by trying different sounds, and drums for each lesson. Love the songs you chart out too. Great Job.

I love this book. The Dinosaur Method is great for anyone that wants to learn how to play the drums. I’ve been playing drums a long time, and learned a lot of Dope songs by ear, it’s an awesome reassurance to see that I was playing the songs correctly and had the right tempos. I would consider myself an intermediate drummer and this book def helps me fine tune my skills that I have been lacking to bring up to par. This book offers REALLY good information into being a beginner and even more info and approach to go from a beginner to Intermediate drummer. Easy to read and understand. Seriously this book is going to be 1 of my staples books for drumming.

Dude, Angel!! I’ve been drumming for over 40 years and have looked at/ used drum lesson books in the past… this book is by far and away better than any drum book I’ve ever read or used! The Dinosaur Method is pure genious! Not only will this book help me teach my student, but also help ME as I clearly don’t know all there is to know about drumming. Dude, I didn’t know that there are 40 different drum rudiments… I thought it was around 26 or so… More things for me to learn! 🙂 Angel, you truly are a blessed man to have found his niche in life!! Rock on, brother!!! 🙂

I’ve spent a couple of hours reading your book and playing through everything—I think it’s fantastic! One of the most comprehensive books I’ve ever seen—aside from being very thorough, it’s very clearly written. I even learned a couple of things about the history. The best compliment I can give it is that I wish I wrote it myself. Congratulations on a great contribution to the world of drumming, and best of luck with it.

I have been playing drums as long as i can remember. I was taught by my father and brother, who studied under Henry Adler and Steve Houghton. Needless to say I have been thru some drum books. Angel’s book is the first to be added to my collection since The George Stone Stick Control and Gary Chester’s New Breed. Angel has a way of explaining things in a very clear method. I had the honor of helping to proof read this book and remember sitting in Angel’s studio thinking “wow, if my dad and brother explained it like this, it would have clicked quicker”. I am really diggin on the blank pages after lessons to write your own. It reminds me of my music theory days of read it write it, play it. The Jurassic Method is one of the best methods for younger students that I have seen yet. Whether you have been playing drums forever, or you are just starting out, Angel’s book must be part of your collection!!!!

It’s nearly impossible to get bored of this book. Its covers pretty much everything you need to know about drumming and everything is explained really well. The exercises are great and I love that the “create your own” pages give you the chance to get creative and use your own brain. The tips at the bottom of the page are pretty helpful and sometimes funny and reading about how Angel’s gotten to where he’s at is really cool and sets it apart from other books. I have a lot of fun learning from this book and I definitely think anyone interested in drumming will too.

I Had such a great time thumbing through Angel Bartolotta’s New Book “So you Want to be a Drummer” this morning! In it, Angel covers so many Important subjects with a mix of Seriousness and Humor. The Basic’s are all covered in a clear ,concise and professional fashion and I’m looking forward to re-reading it and studying it! In one section, Angel has also created the “Dinosaur Method” that speaks to the minds of very young Boys and Girls who want to be Drummers. It reminds me of seeing 3 and 4 year olds in San Diego learning Violin via the Suzuki Method! Yes, You are never too Young or Old to enjoy fresh knowledge! There are Great Photos from Angel’s Career and Road Travels making it a Fun read.
I’m one of those Drummers that skimmed the reading/learning curve as a 6 year old kid. By 12, I was playing in a Band with my older brother Michael and continued as a half educated player my whole life. I learned mostly from listening and watching my favorite Drummers. I play Guitar and Keys in the same manner. Having been in “Modern Drummer Magazine” and played with Pro players most of my Adult life, I’m still sometimes ashamed, year after year seeing young Kids at NAMM in L.A. who were schooled properly “Blow me Away”. Don’t be like ME!!
I have been very Lucky in fashioning a Career in Music as Drummer and Singer and I always felt that, had I been encouraged to be a better reader early on, my career could have taken me even further. I have books by Bernard Purdie and others and consider this book equally Important! I play on average, 5 to 6 nights a week but ,I will find time to go back to the beginning with Angel Bartolotta and revisit my early training. This 60 year old Kid is still learning. As a friend of mine put’s it… “Remain Trainable”. Awesome Job Angel! Thank You my Friend!

Other books I’ve used seem too easy, but not Angel’s book! The lessons are very challenging, but that’s a good thing! I also enjoy the info and photos of Angel and reading about his experiences on the road. Most other books don’t get as personal as this one does. This book is very personal, and that keeps it interesting and fun to read. I also like the chapter about the history of the modern drum set. There is a lot to learn from in this book!

So you want to be a drummer? If so, this book is for you. The author has crafted a highly organized instruction manual that guides the novice through rudiments and beats that build on previous lessons. This book represents a well thought out approach that is much appreciated by the student. I highly recommend it.

"As a student of Angel's whether you've played drums before or haven't touched a drum kit in your life, he explains step by step each note, beat, and rhythm until he makes sure you understand it before moving on to the next exercises. After catching a Team Cybergeist show for the first time, I realized going to Angel for lessons was the right choice by the amazing power and dedication he has behind that drum kit. Amazing drummer."
